One of the tasks that he will be required to do is support and strengthen the efforts of the AU Commission’s departments, planning and coordinating the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).

He will be expected to mobilise political support from member states and regional economic communities.

The program for Infrastructure Development in Africa will need Raila’s help in facilitating greater ownership by all concerned stakeholders.

His skills will come in handy as AU seeks to rally development partners to increase their commitments in Africa.

He will have to pay attention to the missing links along the identified transnational highway corridors as part of the Trans-African Highways Network that passes through Kenya.

Odinga is supposed to focus on the continental high-speed train, one of the flagship projects of the AU initiatives and seek their guidance to ensure the required synergy and coherence.

He shall also be expected to interact with the current champions of related AU initiatives and seek their guidance to ensure the required synergy and coherence.

A Political Science Lecturer explained, “The job description is a mixed bag of sorts, with political, technical and diplomatic tasks, all embedded in Raila’s new role.”

The former Prime Minister’s roles are likely to affect his political duties in the country as alleged by Jubilee allied MPs. ODM legislators have, however, refuted claims that Odinga will exit local politics.
