Detectives are still waiting for the DNA results of the man charged with the murder of Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology (RVIST) lecturer in bid to confirm rape claim.
The test results of DNA samples collected from the murder suspect, Mr Godfrey Kipkemboi Kangogo, to confirm whether he raped Ms Irene Jepchumba are yet to be released by the Government Chemist.
The Nakuru High Court had on October 4, allowed the police to collect samples from Mr Kangogo after Ms Jepchumba’s family alleged their daughter was raped since her body was found half naked.
The police said they wanted to match the samples of the two before they can prefer rape charges against the suspect.
Lawyer Gordon Ogolla, who is representing the family, said they are still waiting for the report from the Government Chemist to confirm the allegations.
“We are yet to receive the DNA results from the government chemist before an action can be taken,” said Mr Ogolla.
Ms Jepchumba, who was a lecturer in the department of food nutrition and dietetics at the Nakuru, died on July 6, 2018.
Her body was recovered from Molo river in Rongai Sub County.
She was in the company of the suspect who claimed that she fell off the cliff at Choka Falls on Molo River while taking a selfie.
The autopsy report conducted by government pathologist Mr Titus Ngulungu revealed that she had been strangled to death.
Mr Kangogo’s samples were taken on October 5, following orders by Justice Joel Ngugi directing that he appears at the Nakuru Level Five Hospital for DNA samples to be extracted.
