Well Nairobi county governments ,new uniform for their  Nairobi inspectorate department staff to cost Ksh 300 million.

The Mike Sonko-led county government says the plan to be implemented in the next financial year will make it easier for the public to identify workers charged with collecting parking fees and clamping down vehicles that flout various regulations.

The staff who will help the county collect Ksh29.5 million in the last financial year through court fines, enforcement and impounding of vehicles.

At the moment, the workers wear white and yellow- branded overalls.

The uniform includes identification numbers similar to those of the Police Service, identification badges and boots.

The new uniform is expected to make it easier for the public to identify workers charged with collecting parking fees and  clamping down  vehicles tht flout various regulations.

City Hall further notes that the move will help “to curb incidences of impersonation by some members of the public”.

This has struggled to enforce city bylaws due to the low staff numbers with 300 additional officers recruited in June 2016.

Nairobi County Government over spending has seen them imposed high levies  to bridge budge deficit.

In a bid to bridge the 2018/2019 budget deficit,Nairobi residents  are expected  to pay more taxes  on garbage collection which  has been imposed on homes with those in informal settlements parting with Sh100 per month, Sh300 for middle case estates and Sh500 per month for high-end suburbs.

New  levy has been imposed  on the  parking fees rates  for saloon cars have also been revised from Sh300 to Sh400 per day.

According to the Bill, day primary, nursery and day cares with over 850 students will be required to pay up to Sh30,000 per month for garbage collection. Boarding primary, secondary, universities and colleges with students above 2,000 will be required to pay up to Sh65,000.

In the new proposed bill boda bodas operating from the CBD will be required to pay a monthly fee of Sh1000 each while tuk tuks operating outside the CBD will have to part with sh1,500 monthly.   Public Service Vehicles wishing to reserve space in the CBD will also pay Sh250,000 per year.

Moreover, the county treasury has proposed more taxes on city residents such as a new levy on garbage collection of Sh100 per month to households in informal settlements such as Kibera, Kukuru slums as well as Dandora.

Households in middle-income estates such as Donholm, buruburu and pipeline will pay Sh300 per month for garbage collection whereas households in high-end estates such as Kileleshwa, Runda, lavington and kilimani will pay a monthly garbage collection fee of Sh500.

The further stipulates that day Primary schools, Nursery and Day care schools with over 850 students will be required to pay up to Sh 30,000 per month for garbage collection.
