Why Oyamo and Obiero were denied bail

Michael Oyamo who is Obado’s personal assistant  and Caspal Obiero, who works as a clerk in Migori County were today denied bail after they were presented to court for the hearing of their bail application. The two were arrested over the murder of Sharon Otieno.

Judge Lessit who was presiding over the case  gave her reasons for bail denial

“I find that there are compelling reasons not to grant  the second and third accused bail at this stage I find that releasing them may send fear and  anxiety to potential witnesses and therefore lead to intimidation which may adversely affect the case.”  stated Judge Lessit.

“Their release is likely to disturb public order, peace and public security bearing in mind the reaction of the public at the time of the arrest.”

Oyamo had earlier denied one count of murder when he appeared before High Court judge Jessie Lesiit. Oyamo is accused of luring Sharon Otieno and handing her to her killers.

The investigations into this case  commenced as a result of the abduction and subsequent brutal murder of Sharon and her unborn child.

Caspal Obiero has also been in police custody after being linked to the murder by the police.

Even though the two were denied bail, Obado’s bail was granted on the conditions that he will deposit to court 5 M cash bail; 2 austerities of 5M each,  submit his travel documents for Kenya, East Africa and diplomatic passports. He should also report to the deputy registrar of  the court once every month.

Judge Jessi Lessit noted that they have a right of appeal for bail or bond.
