Why Can’t Eric Omondi Let Young Leyla Mohammed Shine?

Eric Omondi is undoubtedly one of Africa’s greatest comedians. The witty Omondi bagged the Arican comedian of the year award over the weekend at the African Entertainment awards held in the USA.

He jetted back to the country to a heroic welcome and didn’t take long to share a new creative masterpiece with Kenyans Online. Eric dropped a cover to young Leyla’s beautiful rendition of the wimbo wa historia song.

Omondi,s rendition of the historical song takes us back to the early days of Kenyan comedy. He gives people a history of how Kenyan comedy began and it’s growth over the years. Eric honours founders and pioneers of Kenyan comedy like Mzee Ojwang, Mama Kayai and Nyambane.

The rendition itself it not bad but a section of Kenyans feel that Omondi is trying to take the shine away from Young Leyla Mohammed.

Fast rising teen singing sensation Leyla, 13, dropped her first ever single, WimboWaHistoria, a masterful rendition of the famous Kenyan Patriotic song of the same name.

The talented Leyla performed her rendition of the song ‘Wimbo wa Taifa’ over the weekend during the Mashujaa Day celebrations in a breathtaking voice that even the bad sound system at the event did not dampen her spirits. She wowed many including President Uhuru Kenyatta with her angelic voice. She later got a chance to meet with the president.
