Pan africanist Raila to operate from five offices

Details have emerged on the high profile position that ODM Leader Raila Odinga will occupy as African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development.
The position will give him wide networks throughout Africa where he will have 5 offices spread across the region.

Odinga will have offices in Nairobi as well as Addis Ababa in Ethiopia.

In the Southern African region, he will be given an office in South Africa while his other office will be in Nigeria to cater for the Western African region.

The former Prime Minister will have a fifth office in Egypt to cater for the Northern African region.

The details emerged even as some politicians in Jubilee demanded that he exits from the local political scene.

A section of Jubilee MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto claimed that Odinga should exit the political scene and concentrate on the AU job which they claimed to be very demanding.

On Tuesday it was reported that some ODM politicians were concerned that their leader’s busy schedule might cost him political support in Kenya.

However, Odinga’s close allies Junet Mohamed and James Orengo have explained that the ODM leader was capable of multitasking.

Orengo said that the new job did not require the former Premier to withdraw from local political activities.

Odinga is expected to fast-track the implementation of the five-year action plan signed between the AUC and China in October 2016 under which the AUC seeks to have agreements on relevant laws and railway cooperation regulations adopted.

The pact also sets outs guidelines for cooperation between African countries and Chinese enterprises developing the rail network for the development of advanced manufacturing across the continent as well as capacity building.

In his acceptance remarks Odinga said integrated infrastructure development was central to the attainment of the pan-African agenda of unity and seamless movement of persons and goods.
