Reknown Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi claimed that  Majority Leader Aden Duale might become an Member of the County Assembly once the referendum happens.

In his weekly show  the 5th estate, Mutahi Ngunyi said that the much hyped referendum is a paradox in the sense that, ”if we fail to hold it we will live in perpetual fear every five years but if we hold it, it will open up issues we do not want to deal with.”

In addition he said that adopting a parliamentary system might also mean taking up a proportional representation system which will ruffle a few feathers.

He further said that Majority leader Aden Duale’s constituents are few and proportional representation would mean his role is reduced to that of an MCA.

“I respect Duale, he is the only MP I follow on Twitter because the others are clinically incompetent in my view.

“But you cannot have an MP like Duale representing the same number of people like an MCA in Kiambu or in Umoja in Nairobi.

“We should have the courage to make Duale an MCA or the Kiambu MCA an MP,” he noted.

Recently ODM leader Raila Odinga called for the Constitution to be changed to ensure MCAs are tamed and their minds shift from self-gain to provision of services.

Speaking in Homa Bay during the burial of veteran politician Elisha Aketch Chieng’ at Langi village in Ndhiwa, Odinga described county assemblies as “theatres of the absurd”.

“The Kenyan society is saddened by the developments in our county assemblies.

“They have become theatres of the absurd hence there is an urgent need to rectify the situation in the upcoming referendum to improve services to the people,” he remarked.
