A section of Kenyans on twitter have reacted after a photo of an examination paper emerged and Sharon Otieno’s murder story was used as a comprehensive passage. According to Kenyans, this is inappropriate because it is a sensitive matter that is still in court. A Kenyan reasoned that in a case where Sharon’s sister or any close family would be sitting for that examination.. it could result to an emotional breakdown.
While some revealed that there is absolutely nothing wrong about it, some think otherwise.
This is a photo that was shared two days before Sharon Otieno’ s body was laid to rest.
Migori County Governor Obado was arrested in connection with the Rongo University student’s murder on September 21.
He is expected back in court this week for a ruling on his application for bail. DNA results linked the governor to the child Ms Otieno was carrying, but the governor’s lawyer Cliff Ombeta said this does not implicate the county boss in the murder and demanded that he be released on bail.
Other key suspects in the murder are Mr Obado’s personal assistant Michael Juma Oyamo and Migori County Assembly Clerk Casper Obiero. They have denied the charges.
They are also awaiting determination of their bail application whose hearing is set for October 24.
Here are some of the reactions on the exam passage
1. The grammar is pathetic
2. They could have picked a different story that doesn’t incite emotions. This passage appears to be testing emotions rather than knowledge.

So, supposing it was Sharon’s sibling or child sitting the exam, it is fine? Don’t look at this passage from your angle, look at it from a child’s mind and thoughts. It is wrong at all levels. River and the source was fictional.

That’s what came to mind. With the millions of possible stories and even the possibility of actually just writing one out of the blue, these geniuses picked a fresh murder with the case still in court.
I can’t.

No. I do not agree with all the contents of the story. But I don’t think there is anything inherently bad with using a real event in the education system.

this is a comprehension passage, maybe an excerpt from a newspaper. its not bad.
the only wrong is that the matter is still in court. thats not right.
My two cents.

This is wrong on so many levels.

Are these examinations ever moderated? How does one come up with such a passage as her relatives and friends are grieving?
