Deadly Kericho bus owner, Director released

 

The bus owner, Bernad Ishihindu and Director of the Western Cross Express Comany Limited, Cleophas Shimanyula were today charged in court over the road accident that killed 56 people at Fort-Tenan area in Kericho County the morning of Wednesday 10th October.

After being in police custody for more than a week now, the two suspects were arraigned in the Molo Court where they denied charged of operating the bus without a night permit and insurance. The Speed Governors and Safety Association had earlier confirmed that the bus was overloaded, speeding and not licensed to travel at night.

Speaking after the fatal crash, the Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet admitted that the accident was caused by negligence. Th Speed Governors and Safety Association confirmed that the bus was overloaded, speeding and not licensed to travel at night.

The two were released on a Ksh.5 million bond each after Molo Chief Magistrate Samwel Wahome granted police more time to complete investigations into the accident. The Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji also directed Boinnet to extend the investigations into the crash to cover all government agencies responsible for road safety.
