A 22-year-old man killed his father at Sing’oiywek village in Kipkelion West, Kericho County following a disagreement over the sale of family land.

According to area chief David Langat, the suspect identified as Vincent Ateya approached his father, 55, demanding for a portion of the family land to be sold and he be given the proceeds to use in paying for his wife’s dowry.

The chief said the man’s wife had separated with him over his failure to settle the bride price. His father, however, objected to his request, a move that infuriated him.

The chief said the man went to his house, picked a knife and proceeded to his father’s house where he ambushed him and stabbed him twice on the left side of the chest before escaping.

He succumbed to the injuries while being rushed to St. Vincent Hospital in Muhoroni by family members and neighbors who had responded to his distress call.
