Why DP William Ruto is playing ‘mchezo wa paka na panya.’

Few weeks ago the Deputy President announced that he will support the calls for referendum if it aims at reducing the burden to mwananchi who is currently being pressed down by the wage bill.

Different leaders have been raising their different opinions on this call for referendum which was put forth by the Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Speaking during a fundraiser at Suneka Catholic Church in Bonchari Constituency in Kisii, the DP said the time for riddles is over, and it is now time for politicians to concentrate on development. Ruto also termed this as a call from idlers.

“The time for party matters, politicking and who should be in which position is over and whoever is interested in joining the race should wait for me ahead. I’m not afraid,” the DP said.

He also repeated his opposition to having a referendum simply to create positions for individuals.

This contradicts with his earlier sentiments of supporting referendum calls . This also sounds different as the deputy president is known to be a man  with a strong unwavering stands on political matters.

He said the Jubilee administration has doubled its efforts to ensure that many of the projects they promised during the campaigns are completed.

The Deputy President with his latest call joins President Uhuru Kenyatta who had strictly focused on development. The president had even refused to comment on matters of referendum rather warning political leaders to stop spreading divisive politics that will split the country. He urged leaders to support the government in fulfilling the big four agenda.

Deputy President William Ruto  affirmed the Jubilee administration’s resolve to soldier on with development, even as he told opposition leader Raila Odinga to brace for a grueling battle if he joins the race for State House in the 2022 elections.

This means he has changed sides and back on pushing for national development and focusing on his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
