Rooney gives advice to Manchester United ahead of Chelsea tie

DC United talisman Wayne Rooney has delivered his verdict on whether his former side Manchester United should attack when they face Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is known to deploy defensive tactics when he faces top four sides away from home.

There have been frustrations with United’s playing style as most people including Paul Pogba have called on the team to attack in certain games.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Rooney was asked whether Manchester United should attack against Chelsea and gave an honest answer, “People talk about our team – especially in relation to Manchester United now – and say it was attack, attack, attack. But we actually weren’t,” he said.

“A lot of games we played on the counter-attack, drew teams into us and then broke with pace. We did it to Arsenal.

“It wasn’t all ‘let’s just go out and attack’ it was a bit more calculated against certain opponents which brought the best out of myself.

“We had the team built to hit teams on the break and we were devastating at it.”
