Residents of Nairobi have taken on social media to denounce the idea of scrapping Nairobi county and handing it back to the National Government.

The debate was started by senator Aaron Cheruyoit who tabled a bill which he wants the county government of Nairobi Dissolved and be part of the National Government.

Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruyot becomes the second senator to propose that Nairobi County be scrapped and its management reverted to the National Government.

Cheruiyot is also proposing in a Bill that is now awaiting publication before being introduced to the Senate that the name capital City be replaced by the Name National Capital City, the first move to remove the Capital as one of the devolved units was sponsored by then Murang’a Senator Kembi Gitura in 2016.

The bill have been flopping since then as many MPs feel that the county should be run by the National Government. Aaron Cheruiyot argues that Nairobi is the focal point of development in the country and has many administrative units.

In his proposal the President will have the power to stamp authority over the county government of Nairobi.
This make the city b without representation and where tax payers do not have leaders speaking for them directly other than the National Government.
