VIDEO: Sonko honors pledge to Harambee stars, Gives them Ksh. 3M cash

Nairobi County Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has honoured his word by awarding Harambee Stars Ksh3 million moments after the Sunday match at Kasarani Stadium where they thrashed Ethiopia 3-0.

Sonko had promised the Kenyan team the cash prize if they could beat Ethiopia in their October 14, 2018 return match.

Deputy President William Ruto had also promised the team a cash prize of Ksh. 50 million upon winning the match.

In a video posted on his facebook page, Sonko who was speaking to the team in the dressing room alongside DP Ruto, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and FKF President Nick Mwendwa is seen congratulating the team and giving out the cash prize in form of US Dollars.

The cash was receive in celebrations by the team captain Victor Mugubi Wanyama.

“I had promised to award the team Ksh3 million on their victory, and here stands my promise,” Sonko stated as he handed over the cash to the team’s captain.

The Nairobi county boss further urged Harambe stars to embark on consolidating a strong team which will take part in the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Cameroon.

Addressing the players, the Ruto expressed his gratitude over the stunning performance.
