Led by Siaya Senator James Orengo ,a section of ODM leaders have petitioned the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to investigate the source of funds donated by Deputy President William Ruto at fundraisers across the country.
The leaders argued that parliament recently enacted stiff rules and regulations regarding the withdrawal of money from commercial banks, hence, the millions dished out by Ruto should be probed.
“Nowadays to withdraw a million shillings from the bank is non an easy thing. So the investigative agencies must also investigate where these millions of shillings being dished out are coming from,” said Orengo.
The Senator, who made the remarks in Ugunja Constituency, also warned churches against accepting funds whose source is not clear, noting that they could sometimes be given stolen money.
“And our churches stop accepting stolen. This is the devil’s money,” said the senator.
Alego/Usonga MP Samuel Atandi echoed Orengo’s sentiments, saying for the country to effectively fight corruption, impunity must be dealt with to the end.
He stated that efforts to fight corruption will be in futility if the Deputy President will continue to carry hundreds of millions of shillings whose source is unclear.
“I want to ask William Ruto, from which bank do you withdraw millions of shillings you carry in bags. You cannot withdraw such amounts of money unless you explain the purpose of that money,” he said.
“If William Ruto continues to carry loads of cash in bags and we say we are fighting corruption. We are doing nothing.”
