‘Obado shuld be sentenced to death’ Says DPP Haji

The Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji has come out strongly insisting that the slain Migori governor Okoth Obado should be sentenced to death following the evidence against him regarding the  brutal murder   Sharon Otieno’ and her unborn child.

According to DPP Haji says Obado planned and executed Sharon’s murder with an aim of eliminating unborn baby who was likely to cause him political ridicule.

In his statement he said, “We have established at this pre-trial that he was in constant communication with prime suspects and that he was at the murder scene.

“The only justice the deceased’s family can get it handing him death sentence. The constitution has not abolished death sentence. It’s dangerous to grant him bail since he might compromise investigations,” he stated.

In an affidavit filed in court, DPP Haji added sayin g that Obado was directly involved in Sharon’s murder. He  “conspired, aided, abetted and procured the murder of Ms Otieno”.

And to tie the case, the DPP  mapped out investigations that are likely to rope in “very close family members” of the governor and associates who might have played key roles in the murder.

Haji says confessions from some of the suspects arrested have prompted more investigations that are pointing fingers at Obado’s household.

On Friday the defence team led by  retired Judge Nicholas Ombija were denied bail to have Governor Okoth released.

In the court hearing,Ombija insissted that his client has not by any chance been directly linked to the mjurder of Sharon and her unborn child.

The efforts to have the governor leave remand did not bare any fruits as Judge Lessit denied the defence team bail leaving Obado to go back to remand for another two weeks when he will be brought back in court.

Mr. Obado along with his aides Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero are accused of brutally murdering Sharon Otieno and her unborn baby.
