Mrs Ruto takes sponsors head on!

Mrs Rachel Ruto, wife to the the Deputy President William Ruto, has called on young women to avoid getting ‘sponsors’ to fund expensive lifestyles.

She expressed her dismay at the widespread culture of young women seeking older men for monetary gain.

Speaking during the celebration of the Day of the Girl Child at Kenyatta University, Mrs. Ruto urged women to resist the temptation of ‘sponsors’.

“This issue of sponsors should not be part of your life. You don’t need to get money from a man for you to survive. Many of these people will just take you for granted,” she said.

Her comments come after a recent expose by the BBC where several young women interviewed claimed to live extravagantly thanks to ‘sponsors’.

Dubbed Sex and The Sugar Daddy, the expose linked the cases to the advent of social media pressure where the girls want to portray a successful life online.

Poverty was also one of the reasons highlighted in the video that some of the girls claimed drives them to seek men for financial gain.

The video that was released on September 3 elicited sharp criticism.
