Was Obado’s arrest on the basis of public pressure?

Obado’s lawyer has stated that Obado has a right to bail giving his reasons that “There is nowhere the 1st accused (Okoth Obado) has been directly mentioned to have links to any crime before. He also added that obado was arrested out of public pressure”

Before the arrest of Governor Obado, The office of Migori County rubbished claims linking him to the abduction of Nation journalist Barack Oduor and the late Sharon Otieno.

According to a statement given by Migori County communications boss Nicholas Anyuor months ago, the allegations were meant to damage the reputation of the Governor. He also demanded that the media refrain from associating Obado with unsubstantiated claims that he allegedly impregnated and abandoned the university student. Anyuor had argued that the incident is a political witchhunt and police should be allowed to conduct their investigations with no interruptions.

Despite the rubbishing of the claims, Obado was arrested and has been in in police custody for weeks.

Lawyers also argued that there has been a total of 6 people arrested – Of those arrested some were known/ unknown to the 1st accused (Okoth Obado), including employees of the county government and there is no complain of any difficulty he caused in the investigation leading to the arrest.

The lawyer also said that Obado had been cooperating with the police officers during the investigative stage and his detention has only caused hardships to him and his family.

The Judge presiding over Obado’s case is judge Jessie Lessit and this is the second time Obado is in court for a second bail application attempt.
