Former all-conquering sprinter Usain Bolt has scored his first goal for the Central Coast Mariners in Australia in a notable moment of cross-sporting achievement.

The 33-year-old Jamaican, who retired from athletics in 2017, has been keen to pursue what had been a leisure pursuit since his first sporting life ended, having trials with Germany’s Borussia Dortmund, Strømsgodset of Norway and, more lately, Central Coast Mariners of Australia’s A-League.

But the Jamaican has crossed a point that most of us never will in our lives, scoring a pair of goals for a professional footballing outfit.

Playing in a trial match for his new side at Campbelltown Stadium in New South Wales, the global star had already missed a few chances as the game moved into its second half.

But when unleashed in behind with a clever chipped ball he showed pace – surprise there – and strength to find space and rifle a shot past the opposition goalkeeper.

Now, it must be said that he was aided by some genuinely horrific goalkeeping form the man in the Macarthur South West nets but, far be it from us to play the naysayers, well done to the big man, a cracking achievement.

He managed to follow that up with a second soon after, with some more dreadful keeping to thank for the chance of a tap-in.

The defences of the A-League will surely be doing their shuttle sprints in preparation for handling him in the upcoming season should he cut the mustard!

Incredibly, ex-Aston Villa forward Ross McCormack started the game up front alongside him, in a pairing that belongs more in some sort of beer matt fantasy XI than in real life. He managed to notch himself a goal too, though, so it may just be a case of ‘if it ain’t broke…’ for the Mariners!

Here are his goals…
