When you’re asked to name the top club goalscorers in Europe you naturally think of the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappe, however a new name has exploded onto the scene this season, putting the above trio to shame.

Krzysztof Piatek – remember the name – has enjoyed a simply sensational start to the 2018/19 campaign.

The 23-year-old sharpshooter has been hammering home goals for fun for Genoa, bagging an eye-popping 13 goals in just eight games in all competitions for the Italian outfit, including a first-half four-goal haul in cup clash.

The Genoa goal machine has already registered nine goals in seven Serie A games, scoring in every league match so far this term. This incredible tally puts the prolific Polish striker top of the division’s goalscoring charts ahead of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lorenzo Insigne and Ciro Immobile.

Piatek, who signed from Polish side Cracovia for just €4m over the summer, not only leads the way domestically but across the continent and if he carries on this superb form he could soon be set for a blockbuster move.

He made his debut for Poland last month, then on Thursday he opened his account for his country after netting the opening goal in a 3-2 defeat to Portugal.

It’s no surprise that he’s now receiving interest from some of Europe’s top clubs with Barcelona and Juventus both on red alert, while German giants Bayern Munich are believed to be keen to bring him in to replace his fellow countryman Robert Lewandowski.

A handful of Premier League clubs are also reportedly keeping tabs on the striker.

Chelsea are currently unbeaten under new boss Maurizio Sarri who despite the club’s electric start to the Premier League has yet to decide on a permanent striker to spearhead his side. The Italian tactician has been switching between Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata, but he could well be eager to swoop in for Piatek in January in order to bolster his attacking options.

Liverpool have an envious assortment of front men, although it’s fair to say that the club’s famous three have yet to fully click into gear this season, meaning Piatek could prove to be a shrewd purchase in the New Year.

Manchester United’s season have been thoroughly disappointing to date with Jose Mourinho’s men scoring fewer goals than all of their main ‘title contenders’, and three fewer than Bournemouth. The Red Devils are crying out for a goal machine and Piatek could well be a future icon in waiting.
