A few months ago Kenya’s chief justice David Maraga said the funding of the country’s justice system, was “grossly inadequate”, “drastic” and “shocking”.
The budget set aside only KSh50 million (about US$500,000) to fund needs such as repairs, new office space and digitisation, in July 2018. The total allocation to the judiciary was 0.57% of the country’s 2018/19 budget for the year.
“All over the world, the judiciary is given at least about 2.5% of the national budget,” Maraga said. He also said 2.5% was “the recommended global percentage”.
However Chief justice Maraga is said to have recieved a new SUV complete with a chase car .
In a country where there are hardly any ambulances to take road accident victims to hospitals, this is the sleek brand new gas guzzler for the Chief Justice David Maraga. Complete with a chase car.
Did I hear the CJ lament that the judiciary was underfunded? #CourtsSlowOnGraft pic.twitter.com/uW6TnwofSt— Ahmed Mohamed (@Asmali77) October 12, 2018

Fighting the cartels is a risky affair, it could be more for his security than show off. I’d actually expect a lead car, his car and a chase car. Watu sio wazuri sana.
