Gareth Bale did not feature in the game at the Principality Stadium as Spain beat Wales 4-1 on Thursday evening but the Real Madrid star was on the field at half time to receive a golden boot, honouring him as Wales‘ top scorer.

Wales were without their star man due to injury on Thursday who has surpassed Ian Rush as his nation’s leading marksman.

There is still hope that he will be ready to play against Ireland, so Ryan Giggs took the decision to rest him in order to accommodate his recovery, with Bale desperate to achieve promotion in the Nations League.

“Bale has nothing serious, just fatigue,” said Giggs after the Spain defeat.

“We will make a decision in the next two days, but he is very doubtful.”

On the game with Spain, the ex-Manchester United winger was understandably disheartened.

“I”m disappointed to lose and we didn’t play well,” he added. “We didn’t do the things we know and we knew we were against a good team. Spain were excellent, passing the ball and recovering it as soon as they lost it.”

Los Blancos are angry with the Welshman for going on international duty with Wales despite having a niggling injury.

This is not the first time Bale has joined up with his country when he was not in good physical health, upsetting his club further.

The 29-year-old missed Real’s recent UEFA Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow, which they lost 1-0 away from home, due to injury, and also limped off the field in their 1-0 loss to Alaves in the league last weekend, leading Real to believe he would not be joining up with Wales in the international break.
