Ex-Arsenal star praised for weekends performance in Manchester shirt

Romelu Lukaku has praised his partner Alexis Sanchez for scoring the winner against Newcastle United on Saturday.

Sanchez snatched a dramatic late goal to lift United over a determined Newcastle at Old Trafford. Lukaku has said the Chilean is one of the hard-working players among the United team members.

“I would have wanted to have been in his shoes today [scoring the winner], but the guy is working really hard. I think he’s one of the most hard-working professionals I have ever seen and to give us the win, he deserves it and I am really happy for him.” Lukaku told MUTV.

“I think he is a good boy. A good professional who works really hard. He is not playing especially well, in some periods, but, when the team doesn’t play especially well, it’s difficult for players individually to perform well. Today, I think it’s an amazing feeling for him to score the winning goal in a comeback. That is nice.

Lukaku believes the goal will give the former Arsenal man the confidence he needs to stamp his footballing authority at Man United. Sanchez has had to deal with criticism from Jose Mourinho to pundits for a poor form since switching loyalty from London to Manchester.

“It’s massive. As football players, confidence is something you need when you step onto the pitch. You need to believe in yourself, you need to have that confidence to do things and we know how much of a special player he is and today could have been a massive confidence boost.” Lukaku concluded.

Lukaku will hope to lead the Red Devils to Stamford Bridge after the international break to face his former side, Chelsea.
