Arsenal linked with young Paraguay attacker as Ramsey replacement

Whisper it quietly, but Arsenal have been impressing this season as the new era of Unai Emery gets into full swing.

With far and away the best form in the league, memories of the Gunners’ opening back-to-back losses to Manchester City and Chelsea – the last two winners of the Premier League – are becoming distant memories, with the Emirates faithful becoming quite taken with their Spanish manager.

Though a relatively straight-forward fixture list has indeed helped, the North London can only play what’s in front of them; the fact remains that Arsenal are currently on the best run out of any top English side in 18/19.

The last time the Gunners didn’t experience a win was in the narrow away defeat to Chelsea, stretching back over nine games. Their trickiest upcoming encounter over the next month may be Sporting CP in the Europa League, and even then, the verde e brancos lost to Portimonense in the Primeira Liga the past game week to leave them sitting fifth in the Portuguese top tier table.

But not willing to rest on his laurels and looking vehemently ahead to the January transfer window, Emery is hoping to bring in a new face to support his scintillating attacking line-up, if reports by The Mirror are to be believed.

The 24-year-old Miguel Almirón is the reported target, the Paraguayan currently impressing for MLS side Atlanta United with 12 goals and 13 assists so far this season.

Almirón is expected to cost the Gunners around £15million, in line with their modest transfer budget that saw Bernd Leno, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Mattéo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira, and Stephan Lichtsteiner on a bosman, arriving in the summer for not-mind boggling sums of money that currently inflict the transfer market.

The player, who can operate on either wing but favours playing down the middle of the park, is currently contracted at Atlanta until 2020. In their most recent game against New England Revolution, the forward was forced to come off the pitch after just half an hour and has had to be analysed for a hamstring injury.
