Governor Obado could be released on bail, here’s why

Migori governor Okoth Obado has on Friday filed a fresh application in court seeking to have his bail reviewed due to his health issues.

Obado is currently admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital after he reportedly fell sick while in remand at the Industrial Area prison. He was denied bail in the murder case involving Rongo University student Sharon Otieno and has been at the prison for the better part of the last two weeks.

The latest bail application claims that he is  suffering from a severe back problem known as a Nerve Compression with Disc lesion on the Lumber Spine which has been affecting him affecting him for the past five years.

The condition has been affecting his ability to stand for long hours.

To manage the condition, he says he has been under the special care of a medical doctor by the name of Prof. Ating’a.

“Since my condition has not been attended to for the period I have been in custody, the complication aggravated and I was taken ill on September 29. I was subsequently admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital as an inpatient and my condition has not improved since then,” he says.

On September 25, Obado made an application to be released on bail and in a ruling delivered on September  27, Justice Jessie Lesiit disallowed it until after witness statements and other evidence are availed to all parties.

Obado now claims parties were supplied with the Committal Bundles on Wednesday this week and there is no other reason to continue keeping him in remand.
