President Uhuru Kenyatta and his brother Raila Odinga are allegedly pushing for a referendum because they want to turn President Uhuru into an all powerful Prime Minister and Raila into a funeral attending president.

This is according to self declared NRM General Miguna Miguna.

According to the controversial lawyer, the famous handshake between the two leaders on March 9, this year was a plan to The  ‘plan to extend Uhuru’s  tyranny via a referendum that will turn him into an all-powerful PM and his new lap-dog Raila Odinga into a funeral-attending President.’

Mr Odinga on Thursday said “no one can stop an idea whose time has come” as he reaffirmed that Kenya will hold the plebiscite at an opportune time.

Speaking in Rongo, Migori County, during the campaigns for the party Senate candidate Ochillo Ayacko, Mr Odinga dismissed critics of the referendum “as cries of a frog that will not stop cattle from drinking water.”

“The Building Bridges taskforce has begun work and they will move around the country to collect views from Kenyans. We want to fix our problems once and for all,” he said.

He explained that his handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta is meant to address long-term issues that have affected socio-economic development for decades.

Calls for a referendum to reduce the number of elected representatives in the country has divided political leaders in the country with MPs allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta backing the plebiscite push that is opposed by his deputy William Ruto.

Senate Majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed calls for referendum to change the Constitution to a parliamentary system of government saying that it was only meant to benefit an individual. However Murkomen said he supported change of the constitution to reduce baggage on Mwananchi.

Last week, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale opposed the proposal to have a referendum to alter Kenya’s political landscape.

“Jubilee Party will not be involved in the debate about reducing the number of electoral seats until it gets direction from President Uhuru Kenyatta. Our prime focus is on the Big Four Agenda,” Mr Duale said.
