Kenyans have reacted to a posed question in relation to a recent confession by Francis Muthaura. The question was on whether Kenyas retired President Kibaki should return taxpayers money which he used to award his nephews scholarships. The question as stated by the standard in their platform “As an uncle, retired President Mwai Kibaki awarded his nephews scholarships amounting to Sh20 million of tax payers’ money. Should he be asked to return the money?
Muthaura made the revelation when he appeared before a parliament committee to explain why Kibaki’s two grandchildren were flown out to study in Australia using money drawn from taxpayers’ pockets. He told the National Assembly Public Accounts Committee that Kibaki awarded a scholarship worth millions to two of his nephew’s kids through orders to the then minister of education.
This revelation comes at a time when Kenyans had started wishing and missing Kibaki’s leadership as a result of the outcry in relation to over-taxation. Sources reveal that the money was set aside to pay for the expense of Ian and Sandra’s education whose dad had lost his job at that time.
The father of the two, who Muthaura identified as Githinji, is the retired President’s nephew and had lost his job at a local company dealing in petroleum products at the time he needed to take his two children to school. Another revelation is that the former President initially approved support for Ian but that this was later changed to include Sandra. “The President himself wrote to me on this matter and he later varied his earlier communication verbally to have the second student included,” said Muthaura.
Kenyans have come out to give their views in regard to this revelation. Here are some of the comments.

20 million of tax payers money and you are still asking whether he should return it!? What’s wrong with you people?

In countries where people use common sense he could have been asked to return it regardless of how old he is.

“Should he be asked to return the money?”…..what kind of question is that? He should be charged with fraud, fined then jailed for one and a half months…..with no golf! At least some of us will have a chance of visiting him in jail……he was overall, not too bad a president!

He should have returned as early as yesterday.

He should choose whether to be jailed or return the money with interest

Yes and he should actually be arrested and arraigned in court for abuse of office (with all due respect)
