Deputy President William Ruto has asked politicians to stop dirty politics and support the government’s development efforts.
While speaking at church service at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Kongowea, the DP said,”Let us be one and build Kenya for our own good. Kenyans are people from different parties, religions and tribes. We are all one … we were created by one God, Our aim is to bring Kenyans together ”
In addition he said, “We have gone round launching projects since landing in the region. We will have power fixed, roads made and water installed.”
He also said that the plans for the construction of Mwache and Mzima 2 water projects were completed so the work will begin in October.
While launching a water project at Ziwa la Ngombe, Mr Ruto reiterated that Kenya only be changed through development.
“Development projects, not anything else, will change the livelihoods of our people. We should not allow any leader to divide us,” he told the residents.
The DP was with Water Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui, Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya and MPs Mohamed Ali (Nyali) Benjamin Tayari (Kinango), Aisha Jumwa (Malindi) Getrude Mbeyu (Kilifi county) and Michael Kingi (Magarini).
Mr Ali said the only Constitution the people should abide by “is the one that leads us to the same path despite our religious and tribal differences”.
He said people should focus on development as the time for politicking is over.
“In 2022 we will not talk of parties or tribes. We will focus on development in the last five years. That is what we will consider before we vote in another leader.”
On Saturday, Mr Mvurya and tens of Coast Members of Parliament said they will not support Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga in 2022 as they have nothing to show for standing with him for years.
on Friday told his opponents that his frequent tours around the country have nothing to do with 2022 politics.
Contrary to what his rivals think, he has not started his campaigns for the presidency, he said, adding that the political season ended with last year’s General Election and that it’s time for development.
Mr Ruto, who spoke on the second day of his five-day visit to Coast, said some politicians are panicking because of his tours yet all he is concerned with is development projects.
“Some leaders should stop being worried. We are here for development since the time for politics will come. Let’s focus our energies on development,” he said at Kakuyuni in Malindi.
He said the Jubilee government has decided to work with all elected leaders to achieve President Uhuru Kenyatta’s development goals.
