Sonko appoints new Deputy Governor

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Friday appointed Simon Leboo Moritant as the Deputy County Secretary.

In a statement by the director of the governor’s press service Elkana Jacob, the appointment takes effect immediately.

Before his appointment, Leboo was the Chief Officer of the Public Service Management and he has previously served as the acting County Secretary from 2017 until mid 2018.

He has also served as the Town Clerk for more than 20 years.

The governor affirmed that the appointment was in line with his fight against corruption adding that he would not entertain any county staff involved in the vice.

Moritant will deputise Pauline Kahigawho was appointed as County secretary in September.

Following Pumwani saga Sonko suspended a number of senior officials including Health Cabinet Member Vesca Kangogo over what he termed as insubordination.

Vesca was suspended alongside four other top county officials after they contradicted sonko of negligence in the death of 11 infants whose bodies were found stuffed in plastic bags at Pumwani Maternity Hospital.

Sonko appointed Pauline Kahiga as the County Secretary, Charles Kerich as the Health CEC, Mohamed Saleh as the Chief Officer Health Services, and David Aseko as County attorney all in an acting capacity.

Chief Officer Health Services Mahat Jamale who was among those suspended stated that out of the 11 deaths, four were recorded as fresh stillbirths.
