Salah’s Puskas award leaves more question than answers

It has been claimed that the FIFA Puskas award lost credibility after Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah secured the 2018 edition of the prestigious title.

Salah, 25, walked away with the 2018 Puskas award as the Goal of The Season, ousting the iconic overhead kicks of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale in Real’s run to their third consecutive UEFA Champions League title.

While the award was a consolation for Salah’s surprise exclusion from the FIFPro World11 team, even a teammate of the Egypt international question the selected strike.

Former England midfielder Ryan Mason feels the honour has ‘lost credibility’ due to the questionable decision.

“The Puskas award has lost a lot of credibility for me tonight! Not even the best Premier League goal of the season from Salah,” he wrote on Twitter.

“How was [Bale’s goal] overlooked? Arguably one of the best ever CL goals?”
