Mourinho likely to influence  Lampard’s Derby County team selection

According to former Derby County defender Stephen Warnock, Frank  Derby County boss Frank Lampard will  be solely focussed on beating his former mentor.

Lampard played under the Portuguese at  Chlesea for four seasons, winning two Premier League titles, two League Cups and one FA Cup together.

Tonight the pair will come face-to-face in the dugouts as Derby visit United in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

And while Lampard may be expected to rest some of his key players as he targets promotion from the Championship, Warnock says, “I think he’ll always want to beat Mourinho.”

Former Rams defender said, “Because it’s at Manchester United it’ll be a tough night for Derby, United will probably make a few changes to their team because they feel like they can make changes and still have enough to beat Derby. But it’s a difficult one for Derby. Do they go full strength and have a go at it because they have nothing to lose?Or do they possibly change it up a bit themselves?

He went on an said, “If they don’t change it up a bit and they’re on the end of a heavy defeat, it suddenly can knock confidence for going back into league games. I think he’ll always want to beat Mourinho. But the main thing for him is to show he has an identity and he has a style of play. And I’m sure he’ll be picking Jose’s brain after the game. Because he’s very open to that and he’s spoken openly about needing to learn a lot. If he can pick his brains it’s not a bad thing at all.”
