Marco Silva confused by ‘strange’ goal after linesman fail to raise the offside flag as Arsenal beat Everton

Everton Boss Marco Silva criticised the officials after  they were beaten courtesy of  Aubameyang’s  offside goal at Arsenal.

His side had the better of the first 50 minutes of the game, but a quick-fire double from  Lacazette and Aubameyang before the hour ended up downing the visitors.

Arsenal counter-attacked up the pitch before the striker received the ball in an offside position from a flick-on and then scored. Assistant referee Harry Lennard failed to raise his flag.

Silva was not happy with the decision. He said: ‘It’s really frustrating. We have in that moment just one player in our box. It’s too clear to the assistant. It was a counter-attack, we won the ball and after we lost it too quickly and one pass, and it’s two against one or three against one. We have just Jonjoe Kenny inside the box. It’s clear where he is in that moment and it’s clear on the second touch by Aaron Ramsey where the player who finishes is, as well. He’s clearly offside.”

The Toffes boss went on and said,  “For me, it’s a little bit strange but it’s OK. I make mistakes, my players as well. The assistant referees can make them, as well. We were in control of the game in that moment, they scored a great goal but we’ll fight until the end. We’ll try to fight to score the one-one for sure. That moment was really hard for us.’

Silva admitted he hoped VAR, which would have spotted the error, would be implemented in the Premier League for next season, he went on and said, “The people in command have to take the decision. If they didn’t take before, because they talked in that moment it wasn’t the best moment to do. They are trying to find the best way to do that in the future, as soon as possible. Maybe next season we’ll have VAR here.’
