3 Biggest DISAPPOINTMENTS in the Premier League Season so Far

Huddersfield Town v Chelsea FC - Premier League

FPL is well and truly into its second month. The game just like last year has proven to be midfield friendly, while also throwing up some high scoring defenders who have outscored many other high priced names. To be high priced and not have gathered enough points is one of the criteria used in this list. Also, the expectations with which the players went into the season and thereafter, failing to live up to that hype.

Not surprisingly, an unforgiving price fall happens to these players leaving the managers who had chosen them ruing their decision. While not having lived up to his lofty standards and steep price as of yet, Mohammad Salah has still scored a decent amount of points in the game and will hence, not be considered for the list.

3 Riyad Mahrez – Manchester City

Manchester City have by no means had a disappointing start to the season, but many of their star players have! This spot could very well be taken by Gabriel Jesus who has scored only once or Otamendi who was yet to play a minute until the game against Fulham where he grabbed a clean sheet. We, however, go with City’s record signing, Riyad Mahrez. It was always going to be difficult for a new player to integrate quickly into the playing style of the Premier League holders. Still, a lot more was expected of Mahrez as he made his way from Leicester. He had a good opportunity when Man City were missing some crucial players in the opening games but failed to make it happen. The Algerian has so far played only 181 minutes, given no attacking returns and scored a paltry 6 points.

With the quality that Mahrez possesses, you would rather bank on him than not to come good at some part of the season. It is a wait for FPL players until then.

2 Cenk Tosun – Everton

Not perhaps as illustrious as some of the other players on this list. Tosun nonetheless has failed spectacularly in the opening weeks of the season in living up to his potential. The Turkish striker has been a goal machine for club and country for some time. He had a decent run upon arriving in January and then managed an impressive pre-season. It does disappoint to see that he is yet to score in the league especially given the attacking potential in his side. Coming at only £7, Tosun looked a great budget option at the start of the season. He has, however, only managed to grab 2 assists and give a points return of 15. His ownership is hence declining and his price has gone down by £0.1. There is still, however, hope that the striker will head for a goalscoring run in the upcoming games, given his quality.

1 Alvaro Morata – Chelsea

You would be hard pressed to find a player who had performed so well at the beginning of last season, but fell away in insane fashion as it progressed. This year, under a new manager, Morata has again found it difficult to get going while his team has been on fire. Scoring only once so far, Morata looks to have surrendered his opening spot to Oliver Giroud who was impressive in the last game. The Spanish striker has scored only 12 points so far, though his price has curiously not been dropped. It might not stay the case for much longer and his ownership of 3.3% is not expected to sit around for too long if Giroud continues to start. For a player who was Chelsea’s answer to Man United signing Lukaku- it surely has been a fall from grace. Time is still there, however, for Morata to turn things around.
