Mr. Lawrence Mula a former Member of County Assembly has been arrested in connection with the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
Mula was arrested on Sunday night at Homa Bay Police Station where he had gone to record a statement with the police for the investigations into Sharon’s murder. He was the MCA for Kanyadoto.
Homa Bay County Police Commander Marius Tum said Mr. Mula is set to be arraigned in court alongside Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s personal assistant Michael Oyamo, a prime suspect in the murder.
Nation journalist Barrack Oduor, who had been abducted alongside Sharon but managed to escape, had claimed that the former MCA introduced him to Migori Governor Okoth Obado.
Police are also inspecting several places Sharon visited before her murder as well as scrutinising her phone records for clues. Also being investigated on are calls to anonymous numbers allegedly made by Migori Governor Okoth Obado ‘s personal assistant Michael Oyamo before Sharon’s body was found.
Detectives are also hoping to identify the person who picked Sharon and Barrack from the hotel in the hotel’s CCTV footage. DNA tests are yet to be conducted to give further evidence.
