The news of his death came just as the rapper was preparing to head off on a solo tour, following the release of his new album, Swimming. In his last post on social media, he told his 8.59million followers: ‘I just wanna go on tour.’ The tour was due to kick off in San Francisco in October. Mac and Ariana began dating in August 2016, going public the following month. He was there for the Break Free singer throughout the aftermath of the Manchester terror attack, and he performed alongside his girlfriend at the One Love Manchester benefit concert in June.

They called time on their romance earlier this year, explaining their hectic work schedules was the reason behind their split. Ari later started dating Pete Davidson, and surprised fans by confirming their engagement just weeks after making their relationship official. However, Mac, real name Malcolm James McCormick, vowed he had no bad feelings towards the new couple, in one of the last interviews before his death. Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1 Radio, he said: ‘It’s strange. Like, the whole thing is a little strange but it’s not negative. It’s just a part of something that’s going to continue to help make me who I am. ‘You know, it’s all positive energy. I am happy for her and moving forward with her life just as I’m sure she is with me.’
