Nairobi MCA’s have given governor Mike Sonko 14 days to return to his county office and stop running county affairs from his Mua residence in Machakos.

The MCA’s through their Majority leader Abdi Guyo said it is ironical for Sonko be operating from another county.

Guyo said in the event the governor does not return to Nairobi, he will be summoned to appear before the assembly to explain why he cannot run the city from City Hall.

“We have resolved that we want Governor Sonko back at his City Hall office. City Hall is gazetted as the Nairobi County headquarters and we cannot have a governor running our affairs from another county,” Guyo said.

Sonko shifted most of his meetings to his home in Mua Hills in May for fear of his life.

This was after the government reduced his bodyguards from 15 to four.

However, Sonko communication director Elkana Jacob denied Guyo’s claims saying the Governor has been performing his duty at City Hall.

“The Governor has been operating from his office in Nairobi. The MCA’s are just bitter because he(Sonko) has sealed all corruption loopholes,” Elkana said. Guyo also said Sonko has 14 days to appoint a deputy governor.

“The issue of deputy governor is long overdue. In this motion of county affairs we have resolved that the Governor appoints his deputy as soon as possible because we need him or her in one way or the other,’ he said.

Guyo, however, dismissed claims that there is bad blood between the county executive and the assembly.

“We have no bad blood, all we are saying is that service delivery to the people of Nairobi needs to be improved and the governor should let the county structures work and stipulated in the constitution,” Guyo noted.
