Premium cognac brand Rémy Martin yesterday unveiled King Kaka as the face of a global campaign titled, “One Life. Live Them.” The campaign was being launched in Kenya for the first time.

Rémy Martin Africa marketing manager Alvin Saal said, “We want to inspire people to explore their many talents and diverse interests, instead of simply being defined by a single path.”

Saal said in partnering with King Kaka, they could not have found a more inspiring gentleman.

“He is someone who truly embodies the concept of being defined not just by one thing, but by many. He was selected because of the range of experiences he has and the exceptional accomplishments he has achieved,” Saal said.

The campaign comes alive through print and video, in which King Kaka, real name Kennedy Ombima, describes his “slashes” — the passions that drive him and make him unique.

King Kaka who is a musician, poet and humanitarian, is the incorporation of strength of character, someone who dares to express his creativity and break into new areas. He is best known as an award-winning hip hop artist with over 700 songs. He is also an accomplished spoken word poet and philanthropist.

Kaka is the founder of several initiatives that touch on topical issues, such as gender violence through the Dreams Campaign, and youth marginalisation under the ‘Tubonge’ (let’s talk) programme. He recently did a countrywide Sanitary Bank Initiative that has earned him a speaking opportunity at the 2018 Goalkeepers Conference in New York by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

King Kaka believes that with success comes social responsibility, the power to give back.

“We are here to build. Don’t hold back and don’t wait for success to come to you. We must dream big together and give back to the community that brings us up. Together we can go far. So do big things and go for it. Don’t be afraid to fail, because only by learning these lessons can we succeed,” he said.

King Kaka joins a host of notable personalities that have previously graced the “One Life. Live Them.” campaign, including Hollywood actor Jeremy Renner, Nigerian DJ Jimmy Jatt and South African technology entrepreneur Madoda Khuzwayo.
