Killer students? Three Kisumu Students Arrested Over Murder of Secondary School Teacher

Three students are being held by police in Nyakach, Kisumu County over the heinous murder of a secondary school teacher on Wednesday night.

The two secondary school students and their university peer are said to have hacked to death Manase Ong’ole and injured two of his companions moments after a verbal exchange at a bar in Nyakach’s Nyamaroka trading centre.

Fidel Castro Odero, an 18-year old Form Four student at Wang’apala Secondary School, Patrick Omondi, 18 from Ramba Boys Highs School and 21-year old Moi University student Ian Agure will appear at the Ahero Law Court to face murder and assault charges.

Kisumu County Police Commander Job Boronjo said the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have commenced investigations into the incident. He added that the team is on the ground collecting information regarding the incident.

Kuppet officials led by the Kisumu branch executive secretary Zablon Awange demanded speedy arraignment of the suspects.

He called for thorough investigations to ensure justice is served not only to the principal’s family but also to the school. “Let no stone remain heavy or unturned in bringing the culprits to book,” he said.

Awange said security should be improved in Nyakach region to protect innocent teachers and residents

Koguta sub-location Assistant Chief Walter Oguche told the media that the men who survived the attack identified the three students as their attackers.

“Later at about 11pm when the teacher and his friends were heading home, their motorbike stalled midway. As they repaired it, the boys they had an exchange with confronted and attacked them, hacking one to death and injuring the other two,” said Mr Oguche.

The two, Jared Ajowi and Steven Ongondo, are admitted at the Nyabondo Hospital and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital respectively.
