Real Madrid full-back Marcelo admits that they miss Christiano Ronaldo but hopes Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale are up to challenge.
Benzema got himself on the scoresheet twice when the capital club thrashed Girona 4-1 on Sunday night. The Frenchman himself admits that it is hard to forget a man of Ronaldo’s stature.
“[Ronaldo] is the best in the world. It’s obvious that you miss playing with him but Bale and Benzema are really good, too.” Marcelo said after Girona win.
“You can never forget Cristiano. He was so important to Real Madrid and scored many goals, and as Marcelo said, is one of the best attackers in the world, but we have to start thinking about a different team with different players.” Benzema admitted.
The Brazilian was hauled out and Nacho introduced when Madrid was leading 3-1 and accepted that he was surprised by the change made by Julen Lopetegui.
“The change surprised me, but I respect the manager’s decision. I wanted to continue because I was fine, I was 100 per cent. I didn’t understand the change but I respect it. It’s a decision made by the manager. I always want to play.” he explained.
