Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama has returned to first-team training after recovering from a knee injury, the club have confirmed.

The Kenyan missed Spurs’ first two Premier League fixtures after suffering a recurrence of a knee issue during pre-season.

However, Tottenham’s clash with Manchester United on Monday will come too soon for Wanyama’s return.

Tottenham have received a huge boost with the return of Wanyama. The midfielder has resumed first-team training after recovering from an injury.

Wanyama suffered a recurrence of a knee injury which he picked up last summer during Spurs’ US pre-season tour.

Tottenham have been left short in central midfield during the early stages of the season, especially with Harry Winks only just returning into the fray.

Wanyama was a hugely influential figure in helping Spurs finish second in 2016/2017 but has struggled with an injury since the start of last season.

The Kenya midfielder was out of action for four months last season with a knee injury and has been told to rest amid fears it has flared up again.

une 2016, Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur announced that they had reached an agreement with Southampton for the transfer of Wanyama, signing a five-year contract for a fee of £11 million.

Wanyama had previously worked with Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino who brought him to Southampton in July 2013. Wanyama scored his first goal for the club on his home debut against Crystal Palace, in the 82nd minute of a 1–0 league win for Spurs. The goal made him the 138th different player to score for the club, extending its record for the most variety of goalscorers for a single club in the Premier League.

Early in the 2017–18 season, Wanyama injured his knee in the match against Chelsea and was sidelined for over four months. He returned to training in mid-December. On 2 January 2018, he made his first appearance after his injury, as a substitute in the away match against Swansea City.
