President Uhuru Kenyatta has come to the rescue of Gor Mahia and purchased air tickets  for the club ahead of the forthcoming trip to Algeria for the Caf Confederation Cup match.

K’Ogalo are set to take on USM Alger in the final Group D match on Wednesday and will now depart for Algeria on Monday. Gor Mahia officials thanked the President for the gesture as the trip was in Limbo with the club having announced that they were unable to honor the match.

The tickets, costing about Sh6.3 million were issued to the club on Friday, a day before a decisive clash against perennial rivals Afc Leopards in the Mashemeji derby.

“We sincerely thank the President Uhuru Kenyatta and his government for offering such a big support to enable us to travel to Algeria to honour our CAF Confederations Cup match,” The club’s treasurer Sally Bolo was quoted  by their offical website.

Bolo reiterated that the good gesture was timely because the club has a huge financial burden that comes with playing the continental matches as well as going about its local assignments.

“It’s a big relief to receive such support because the club has a big financial burden that comes with navigating through the continental assignments together with local fixtures. “It’s really expensive and this will give us a breathing space as we travel to Algeria. As a club, our sincere word of appreciation goes to the President,” she added.

Gor CEO Lordvick Aduda also confirmed the donation and thanked the President for the wonderful gesture.

“On behalf of Gor Mahia, I want to sincerly thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for sponsoring our team with 30 air tickets for Algeria trip. This follows the request we put to the government earlier this week,” Aduda told a local sports website.

A win will guarantee a quarter final berth for the club while any other result will force the team to rely on results between third-placed Rayon Sport from Rwanda and Tanzania’s Young Africans (Yanga).
