Antoine Griezmann and Atletico Madrid certainly had the first laugh of the Spanish season over rivals Real Madrid on Wednesday night and the French forward made sure he got another chance to laugh at Sergio Ramos on social media.

Atletico Madrid have been made into a real force to be reckoned with under Diego Simeone but they still struggle to get out of the shadow of their local rivals Real Madrid on most occasions.

Under Simeone Atleti have won La Liga and twice been to the final of the Champions League. Annoyingly for them they’ve twice lost to Real Madrid in that time as Los Blancos have won the trophy four times.

Atleti had the chance to land some early bragging rights on Wednesday night when the two sides met in the UEFA Super Cup, after Simeone’s men won the UEFA Cup last season and Real obviously won another Champions League title.

In Estonia it was Los Rojiblancos who were victorious over Los Blancos thanks to extra time goals from Saul and Koke, after Diego Costa’s brace had been equalled by Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos.

On social media Antoine Griezmann took the opportunity to mock Ramos, via Bleacher Reports Instagram post, by posting a picture of Ramos crowning him:

Kings of the Super Cup. Kings of Madrid. ? @atleticodemadrid

Ramos is probably Real’s most important and influential player after they lost Cristiano Ronaldo in the transfer window and haven’t brought in any Galacticos to replace him outside of Thibaut Courtois.

Griezmann’s decision to stay was as monumental and surprising as Ronaldo’s decision to leave and keeps Atleti in a very good position.

This summer Los Blancos have seen themselves lose two of the most influential people in their three Champions League wins in a row with manager Zinedine Zidane being replaced by Julen Lopetegui and Ronaldo leaving for Juventus.

Atleti on the other hand have strengthened. First they have kept Griezmann, a target for Barcelona, as well as Diego Godin, a late target for Manchester United, and added Thomas Lemar, Rodri, Jonny and Nikola Kalinic.

Can Atleti overhaul Real as the kings of Madrid?
