A new teaser for Netflix’s Iron Fist teases a legendary costume

At San Diego Comic-Con last week, Marvel announced that the second season of Iron Fistwill begin streaming on Netflix on September 7th. Netflix released a new teaser for the season today, hinting that we’ll get to see a bit more of Danny Rand’s past — and the classic costume his character is known for.

The teaser shows off Rand (Finn Jones) walking down a street in New York City with Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick), which dredges up old memories of his time at K’un-L’un: a brutal fight. When Wing if everything’s okay, he replies that he just had a bad memory, to which she says that it’s in the past. “I hope so,” he tells her.

The scene hints that Rand’s past will come back to haunt him in this upcoming season, and does something else: it shows Rand wearing a bit of the character’s classic costume — a yellow mask. While characters like Daredevil and The Punisher have been dressed up in the costumes that they’re best known for — often with a more realistic reinterpretation, Iron Fist went without it in the first season of the show. Jones had said that we’ll likely see more of the costume in this upcoming season, noting that its absence was because Rand was still trying to find his footing as a character, and it’s a nice nod to the original source material.

After Iron Fist joined the other Marvel Netflix heroes in The Defenders, his mortal enemies, the Hand, were finally defeated in New York. But that still left one major mystery from the end of Iron Fist‘s first season: the fate of of the mystic city, K’un-Lun. Iron Fist a.k.a. Danny Rand (Finn Jones) invited Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) to see his childhood home, but when they arrived, the city had completely vanished off the face of the Earth.

In a new teaser for Iron Fist season 2, Danny’s mind is once again occupied with images that remind him of his sometimes brutal upbringing in K’un-Lun. But the biggest takeaways here are the familiar masks and robes that resemble Iron Fist’s comic book outfit. K’un-Lun may be in Danny’s past, but it is rapidly catching up to him.

There are a few other lingering threads for Danny to deal with in the new season. During the final episode of The Defenders, Danny promised Daredevil that he would be the protector of New York City. However, the first season finale of Iron Fist suggested that Danny’s former friend, Davos (Sacha Dhawan) was conspiring with Joy Meachum (Jessica Stroup) to possibly kill Danny.

This season will also introduce Alice Eve as Typhoid Mary, a new antagonist from the comic book realm who has traditionally been a Daredevil villain. Typhoid Mary may have multiple personality disorder, but at least one of her personalities is a master manipulator and an expert fighter. Danny’s going to have his hands full when they inevitably come into conflict with each other.

Iron Fist season 2 will hit Netflix on Friday, September 7. What do you think about the new teaser? Unleash your thoughts in the comment section below!
