Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois mocks Everton’s Jordan Pickford

A few days have now passed since Belgium beat England 1-0 at the World Cup. The win meant that Belgium topped the group ahead of the Three Lions. As a result, Roberto Martinez’s Red Devils will take on Japan in the last-16 on Monday.

Gareth Southagte’s England will be back in action on Tuesday when they face Colombia in the knockout round. Belgium beat England thanks to a brilliant goal from former Man United and Sunderland winger Adnan Januzaj. Januzaj cut inside Danny Rose before he curled a left-footed striker past Everton’s Jordan Pickford and into the far side of the England net.

He may have been at the other end of the pitch, but Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois doesn’t believe he would have let in Januzaj’s goal. As reported in the Sunday Times, the Chelsea keeper has mocked Everton’s Pickford for his effort in trying to stop the shot. Courtois said:” The goalkeeper is 10cm smaller than me. I would have caught it. He was too busy throwing his legs in the air.”

England fans will hope that Courtois’ critical comment will only spur Pickford to perform at a higher level. The Everton keeper has started all three matches for England in Russia so far this summer.
