Mathare United Head to Bungoma Looking to Pile Pressure on Gor Mahia

Mathare United will aim to reduce Gor Mahia’s lead on the SPL log to one point when they take on Nzoia United at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma.

The Slum Boys ended the first leg on a high with a 3-1 win over struggling Zoo Kericho. The win brought them to the 30-point mark, only four points behind leaders Gor. And they will hope to reduce the deficit even further by winning against Nzoia.

Assistant coach Salim Ali will man the touch line again in the absence of Head Coach Francis Kimanzi who is with the national team in India.  Centre half Johnstone Omurwa and attacking midfielder Chrispin Oduor will also miss the match for the same reasons.

Nzoia United are also enjoying a rich vein of form and put seven unanswered goals past Dero FC to book a place in the last 32 of the Sportpesa Shield Cup.

The sugar millers are fifth on the log with 26 points and boast of producing the leading top scorer Elvis Rupia who has netted 12 times in 17 matches.

A win for the slum boys will not only move them closer to leaders Gor Mahia but also ensure they consolidate second place from Ulinzi who are third with 28 points.
