‘Mohamed Salah injury is God’s punishment’

As Egypt’s star striker Mohamed Salah battles to recover in time for the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia, a Kuwaiti preacher has said the injury is pehaps “God’s punishment” because he broke his fast during Ramadan.

Salah, playing for Liverpool, suffered a shoulder injury in the Champions League final against Real Madrid on Saturday. He suffered a heavy fall in a challenge with Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos.

“God punished him. Unfortunately, [he will] bear the burden. Do not think the Muslim believes that life is managed by reason and effort, but life is the hand of God comes to whom he will, whether hard or not diligent,” Kuwaiti preacher Mubarak al-Bathali tweeted.

“Perhaps [the injury] is good for you,” Al-Bathali added.

Salah is set to miss Egypt’s first two matches at the World Cup but is expected to be fit in time for their third league game.
