Zinedine Zidane has announced that he is stepping down as Real Madrid manager less than a week after winning a third successive Champions League title with the club.
‘It is time to go. These players need a different discourse, a different methodology,’ the former French midfielder said during a hastily arranged press conference.
He has clarified that he was not pushed out of the door. “It is my decision. For many people this will not make sense but it does for me. It is time for change.”
Real Madrid won a third successive Champions League title after beating Liverpool on Saturday with the former player as a manager.
