Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa says the federation has postponed the much awaited Mashemeji Derby pitting AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia FC.

Leopards are set to host Gor Mahia at Bukhungu Stadium on Saturday 26 May. The Federation had earlier requested the league organizers KPL to postpone the league tie to allow Gor Mahia and Leopards players play for the national but KPL rejected the request citing that there will be fixtures if the tie is postponed.

Mwendwa says the new Harambee Stars boss Sébastien Migné needs all the players he called to the national team available and federation will not postpone the national team friendlies. Despite the federation not being in charge of league fixtures Mwendwa insists that he has postponed the clash and it should be rescheduled.

“The coach wants to have all these players available. Otherwise, he is asking that we postpone the national team matches which the federation will not do. So we are postponing that game and I am calling on the KPL to reschedule it for the good of the national team.” he said during the Sportpesa Shield tournament launch.

Harambee Stars is set to tackle Swaziland and Equatorial Guinea on May 25 and 28 respectively even though the match do not lie on FIFA Calender.
