62 Students Rescued From a Poorly Constructed School Disguised as Church

62 students have been rescued by Police from inhabitable conditions in a school in Kayole which was disguised as a church.

The students, 31 girls and 31 boys, who were discovered by area police in a sting operation on Thursday evening were living in deplorable condition at the one-story building.

The Form 1 to Form 3 students were sharing beddings, lavatories and classrooms in a structure that is not approved as a learning facility.

Kayole OCPD Wilson Kosgei described the environment in as pathetic noting that the students were relieving themselves on buckets.

The students are said to have been transferred to the building from a different school in Tassia Estate where they were first housed.

Teachers fled during the police rain but Police managed to nab the Bishop of the Church who will be charged with operating an illegal private school.

According to KTN News, the students were taken into police custody before they were reunited with their parents.

Following the Precious Talents Top School Tragedy, the government has intensified the crackdown on schools with substandard structures.

Some of the schools whose licenses have been revoked over the same include Precious Talents Top School, St Catherine’s Children Education Centre in Kibra and Kwale Greenfield.
