On Saturday, September 28, there will be four Kenyan Premier League matches at various venues. But one of them will be a derby. A derby between Kariobangi Sharks and Mathare United by virtue of having roots in Nairobi’s slums.

Ahead of the match which will be played at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos County, both teams are breathing fire and promising victory to their fans.

Mathare United have published on their website that there will be little time to savor their first victory of the season which was recorded recently against Ulinzi Stars, and instead start working towards adding three more points against Kariobangi Sharks.

Head coach Salim Ali says all his players are up to the task for all their upcoming matches including the Sharks’ tie, but he warns them of complacency

“Maintaining with the same starting squad does not mean that I have found the squad that best gels together. The team is beyond the 11 players that start the game but you start or make the bench because of what you have done in the last game as well as in training. So I urge all my players to strive to be better and not let complacency creep in,” he said.

On their part, Kariobangi Sharks have published a long story of how the two teams have performed in their previous matches with the intention of preparing fans for some good show. Only time can now tell who walks out of the match with the vital points.
